Free women take part in the commercial life of Gorean politics and politices of a large city, a region, or a camp as men do, owning and managing businesses, lending coin, negotiating loans, organizing caravans, investing capital, conservatively, or risking it variously, in real estate, voyages, commodities, and such, in translating goods about to find the most favorable markets at a given time, and so on.
A Pani free woman was held with more respect than the rest of gor held Free Women. slaves or collar girl knew better than disrespect a Pani free woman. It is known that the Pani woman in charge of the slave hut, would punish slaves without mercy. when they would tear away their sheets, and gave them several stinging strokes of a bamboo switch for disobedience.
The other area where a Pani Free Woman could have status and respect is when she was granted the title as a Daishoya or Daikan.
Daishoya: A scribe is one who does the paper work of the camp and tasks requiring some level of intelligence. The role of the scribe ranges from magistrates of a large city, a region, or a camp to record keepers, lawyers, accountants, historians etc. This title was also given to High Pani Female of Status.
Daikan: A Daikan was a financial magistrate that serve as a merchant, trader, and broker to helps individuals or businesses of a large city, a region, or a camp to raise funds to purchase things (such as new machinery or homes), assist in the movement of money via payment mechanisms, and to provide ways to invest excess funds, such as savings accounts and bonds. This title was also given to High Pani Female of Status.
The Pani free women, incidently, seem, except for the companions of high officers, and such, to have much lower status than the typical Gorean free woman, certainly one of upper caste. For example, an older sister, even a mother, must defer to a male child, bowing first, and such.
